VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — In April 1994, 15-year-old Laralee Spear was walking home from the bus stop when she was abducted and murdered in Volusia County.
For 30 years detectives have been trying to solve her case, and the Volusia County Sheriff's Office just increased the reward to $100,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in this case.
Detectives said the scene of her murder was a burned-out house about a quarter-mile from her family's home on Deerfoot Road, according to a news release. They said they had information prior to the murder of people gathering at the abandoned property, hanging out and shooting guns.
"We believe in our hearts there are people out there who for 30 years have hid the key to solve this horrific murder in their hearts," said Sheriff Mike Chitwood in a video. "Now it's time to let it out."
In April, the sheriff's office was offering a $50,000 reward, which was just doubled.
