ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The St. Petersburg Police Department is searching for the driver in a hit-and-run crash that left an 18-year-old seriously injured Thursday, officers said in a news release.

The crash happened just after 2 p.m. at the intersection of 54th Avenue North and 12th Street North, according to the department. The driver of a maroon Toyota Avalon sedan was reportedly speeding "recklessly through traffic" before colliding with the 18-year-old's truck.

After being hit, the truck rolled onto its roof, trapping the 18-year-old inside, according to police. The driver of the Toyota reportedly climbed out of the car and ran off before being picked up by another car a few blocks away.

The 18-year-old was taken to the hospital, where officers say he was listed "in critical but stable condition."

Anyone with information on the driver's identity or whereabouts can contact the department at 727-893-7780 or text SPPD and your tip to TIP411.
