PINELLAS PARK, Fla. — Investigators found the car they said hit and killed a man in Pinellas Park on Sunday before taking off.
Pinellas Park police responded to a call reporting a man lying in a ditch off 62nd Avenue North near 41st Street. The man, 36-year-old Michael Vilaysack of St. Petersburg, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Car debris was found near his body and his injuries were consistent with getting hit by a car, officials said in the initial news release. Police said they were looking for a gray Hyundai Accent, manufactured between 2018-2022. They also noted the vehicle would likely have significant damage on its passenger side and be missing the passenger side mirror.
Police were called to the scene around 9:03 a.m. near 62nd Ave. and 44th Street after the victim was spotted lying in a ditch, according to a news release.
The road was blocked off as multiple units of law enforcement and the medical examiner were investigating. The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office was also on scene helping with the investigation.
Anyone with information on the driver suspected to have killed Vilaysack in the hit-and-run is asked to contact PPPD at 727-369-7864 and reference case number 2024-18244. Officer Caldwell is the lead investigator on the case.
