BUFFALO, N.Y. — An Oregon-to-New Hampshire flight was diverted to Buffalo after a man was accused of urinating in an aisle of the plane.
Federal prosecutors say the alleged incident happened Wednesday, when there was "a report made by an American Airlines flight that a man exposed himself and urinated in the aisle of the aircraft while the plane was in flight."
That call prompted a response by Niagara Frontier Transit Authority Police, who gathered at Gate 2 of the Buffalo Niagara International Airport.
Once on the ground, 25-year-old Neil McCarthy of Oregon was arrested and escorted off the plane. He's been charged with indecent exposure and now faces up to six months in prison and a $5,000 fine.
McCarthy appeared Wednesday afternoon in federal court and was later released.
The Associated Press, citing a criminal report, said the man claimed to have gotten up to use the restroom and was returning to his seat but has a medical urination problem.
The AP added that the man told police he "had several whiskey and colas before boarding the flight, and then more of them during a layover in Chicago and after boarding there."
