Deputies: 17-year-old shoots 14-year-old before shooting himself in St. Pete

The incident happened on Saturday night.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Detectives are investigating a murder-suicide involving two juveniles in St. Petersburg.

A 17-year-old boy was dog-sitting for a 26-year-old man while he was out of town at a house on Grove Park Avenue North, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office. The boy invited over a 14-year-old girl and another girl he met on a social media app a month ago and also invited his 18-year-old friend at 4 a.m. Saturday.

The four of them consumed alcohol, marijuana and cocaine throughout the day, deputies said.

In the evening, the 17-year-old showed off a gun belonging to the homeowner and all of them started playing and taking photos with it. When a verbal fight regarding a consensual sexual encounter the 17-year-old had escalated, he shot the 14-year-old in the head because she was talking to the other girl about the argument, according to deputies.

After, the 17-year-old shot himself in the head. Deputies responded to the 911 call at 8:47 p.m. reporting two people were shot.

Deputies said an autopsy report will be conducted to determine the cause and manner of death as the investigation is ongoing.
