BRADENTON, Fla. — A Bradenton woman is facing murder charges for her alleged involvement in the fentanyl overdose death of a 35-year-old Ellenton man.
Deputies responded around 6:45 p.m. on Jan. 18 to a home on Royal Palm Drive in Ellenton. They arrived to find EMS rendering aid to a man. He was pronounced dead about 20 minutes later from an apparent overdose, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
The medical examiner listed intoxication with carfentanil, fentanyl and alprazolam as the man's cause of death, adding that the fentanyl and carfentanil each acting alone would have been enough to kill him.
Detectives say they determined that 33-year-old Brianna Zaffina had been with the man at his home the night before and had sold him deadly narcotics.
She was already incarcerated in the Manatee County Jail on unrelated charges when she was served a warrant for murder on Nov. 13.
The investigation is ongoing.
