TAMPA, Fla. — Tampa police arrested a 38-year-old man in connection with a fatal vehicle and moped crash that happened Friday morning.
Nicholas Harrison Jr. was arrested after he collided with a moped and sped off just before 4 a.m. After he took off, he lept driving with the moped still lodged in the front bumper of his vehicle, according to a news release.
The moped was found less than a mile away from the scene. When officers arrived on the scene, the found the victim dead, police said.
At 6 p.m. later that day, Harrison turned himself in at the Tampa Police District 3 office and was transported to Orient Road Jail.
He was charged with one felony count of leaving the scene of a crash with a death, according to police.
The eastbound and westbound lanes of East Hillsborough Avenue from North 47th Street to North 50th Street were closed for hours but have since reopened to traffic.
