MIAMI GARDENS (CBSMiami) — Investigators are trying to find out what happened that led a man to be injured near or at Florida Memorial University.
Chopper4 was over the scene in Miami Gardens at 15800 NW 42nd Avenue where a huge police presence could be seen.
At 11:14 a.m., Miami-Dade Fire Rescue was dispatched to the university. The call was regarding a male who had been shot in the leg.
There are conflicting reports as to whether the shooting happened on or off campus.
Rescue crews took the man to a nearby hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.
The school, at last check, remained on lock down. School officials sent out a statement to students and staff saying in part,
“At this time, a campus lock down has been ordered while police officials and campus officials complete their investigations. Please stay in your dorms, offices and buildings until further notice. For your safety, a lock down has been ordered.”
The circumstances behind the shooting are under investigation.
