Deputies: Man arrested for stealing $2k worth of cigarettes from Tampa Walgreens

The man had a federal warrant out for his arrest and threatened the cashier with a gun before stealing numerous cigarette packs.

TAMPA, Fla. — A man was arrested after he threatened a cashier with a gun, jumped over the counter and stole cigarettes from a Walgreens in Tampa.

Malcolm Green, 28, went into the store at 12211 West Hillsborough Ave. just before 1 p.m. on Friday. He went up to the clerk, lifted his shirt, removed a large plastic bag and showed the victim a gun. Green told her to stay quiet and not move while he stole numerous packs of cigarettes, according to a news release.

He then left the area in a grey Toyota Camry. Hillsborough County detectives found the vehicle at the Family Dollar at 10404 North Nebraska Ave.

Green tried to get away from deputies and Tampa police by driving over a parking curb but hit a car and pillar in front of the store and got stuck.  He was arrested and is now facing a robbery with a firearm charge, according to deputies.

"Despite the suspect's brazen actions and reckless endangerment of our community during his crime spree, he was no match for teamHCSO," Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement. "Together, with the ATF and the Tampa Police Department, we were able to bring this individual into custody. He will now have to answer for his actions and face the consequences of the danger he posed to our residents."

Detectives also learned Green had an active federal warrant and is on federal probation for possession of a weapon.
