Police: Man killed after getting hit by two cars during hit-and-run in Largo

The hit-and-run happened around 9 p.m. on Roosevelt Boulevard as the 56-year-old man was trying to cross the road, officers said.

LARGO, Fla. — The Largo Police Department is investigating a deadly hit-and-run where a man was hit by two different cars Wednesday night near U.S. Highway 19, the department said in a news release.

The hit-and-run happened around 9 p.m. on Roosevelt Boulevard as 56-year-old James Lescord was trying to cross the road, officers said. Lescord was not in a designated crosswalk when the driver off a dark-colored SUV hit him and drove off, according to police.

The car is believed to be either a dark-colored Ford SUV or Mercury SUV.

While Lescord was still on the road, another driver traveling west in a 2007 Toyota Highlander also hit him, police said. That driver reportedly stayed at the scene and showed no signs of impairment.

Lescord died from his injuries.

The road was shut down for several hours as officers investigated. Right now, little is known about the first car involved, and officers are asking anyone with information on the hit-and-run to contact Sgt. Chris Keeler at 727-587-6730.
