Largo man admits to killing his brother, kicks detective during arrest

Early Saturday morning, police found the man's brother dead from gunshot wounds

LARGO, Fla. — Largo Police have arrested a man who told officers that he killed his brother and who also attacked one of the detectives during his arrest.

According to police reports, Joshua Brinkley, 41, made concerning statements to friends of his, one of whom called the police. Officers responded early Saturday morning, arriving at Brinkley's house shortly before 1 a.m.

When they got there, officers claim Brinkley was just getting into his car and leaving his house. When he saw the officers, he stopped the car and got out with his hands up saying, "I just killed my brother in my house."

Officers checked his home and found his brother dead from gunshot wounds.

When officers took Brinkley to the Largo Police Department, he kicked one of the detectives causing minor injuries and earning him a charge of battery on a law enforcement officer. He is also charged with first-degree murder.

Police say this was an isolated incident that poses no public threat, and they are withholding the name of the victim.
