LAKELAND, Fla. — A Lakeland man riding a scooter died after being hit by two cars in a crash, the Lakeland Police Department said in a news release.

Norman Lanier, 62, was driving his motor scooter around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday on Drane Field Road in Polk County when a black Acura sedan hit him as it was turning left.

The motor scooter had an "unaffixed flashlight which likely contributed to its visibility," the news release said.

The Acura driver stopped to help the other driver, but less than a minute later, a white Toyota also hit the motor scooter driver, who was still on the road.

The road was closed for three hours as Lakeland Police, Polk County Fire Rescue and Lakeland Fire Department processed the scene for the investigation.

The driver of the motor scooter was transported to Lakeland Regional Heath where he died from his injuries on Wednesday. The Acura driver had minor injuries and the Toyota driver wasn't injured, according to the news release.

The crash is currently under investigation.
