Joshua Garrett was arrested after he hid from deputies in his employer's ceiling.

LAKELAND, Fla. — A Lakeland man who was wanted for violating his probation was found after his cell phone rang while he was hiding the ceiling of his employer's business.

Joshua Garrett, 38, was causing a disturbance on Saturday afternoon in the area of US 98 North and Duff Road, but when Polk County Sheriff deputies arrived, he left, according to a Facebook post. Deputies went looking for him at the nearby business where Garrett is employed and found out he was seen entering the business but never leaving.

Deputies couldn't find him when they searched the building but said they had reason to believe he was in the ceiling because some of the tiles were disturbed, and they heard his phone ringing.

Deputies also spotted Garrett's hand sticking out from under the insulation.

"Thankfully, the hand was attached to a body – Garrett’s – and not just some random disembodied hand," the post read. "That would have taken this situation into a whole other direction."

He was removed from the ceiling and booked into the country jail on his warrant and additionally charged with resisting arrest and felony criminal mischief. Deputies said he caused about $1,000 worth of damage to the ceiling.
