PORT RICHEY, Fla. — The Pasco County Sheriff's Office is investigating an attempted robbery that turned deadly Friday afternoon in the Port Richey area, according to a news release.
According to the agency, the shooting happened around 2:10 p.m. in the Hickory Hill Drive area when three people tried to break into a home. Before fully getting into the home, deputies said the homeowner opened fire.
One of the suspects was hit by a bullet and reportedly died at the scene. Another was also hit by a bullet and was sent to a local hospital before being arrested by law enforcement, deputies explained.
The third person involved was also arrested after a brief search by deputies, according to the sheriff's office.
Multiple schools in the area were allegedly placed on controlled campus status following the attempted burglary "out of an abundance of caution." As the investigation continues, Fox Hollow Elementary, Jazz Dayspring Academy and Schrader Elementary are still on alert.
