Riverview man arrested for allegedly recording people in unisex restroom

Christopher Scipio was arrested Feb. 1 and charged with multiple counts of video voyeurism.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — A 27-year-old Riverview man was arrested and charged for allegedly recording people in a unisex restroom last year.

Christopher Scipio was arrested Feb. 1 and charged with 31 counts of video voyeurism, tampering with physical evidence and unlawful use of a two-way communications device.

On June 30, 2023, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office received a report from the Verano Grow Facility that a person discovered a cellphone hidden under a sink in the restroom. The phone was recording in the direction of the toilet, according to the sheriff's office.

Detectives learned the cellphone contained explicit videos of approximately 17 people.

The sheriff's office identified the owner of the cellphone as Scipia, who was an employee of the dispensary.

After seizing the cellphone as evidence, Scipia tried to report it stolen to erase data, according to the sheriff's office.

“This man's actions are repulsive and disgraceful. We will not tolerate this invasion of privacy and exploitation in Hillsborough County," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "I want to commend the victim who came forward, as her actions likely prevented others from becoming victims."

Detectives believe there could be additional victims of Scipio. If anyone has any information, call 813-247-8200.
