SUN CITY CENTER, Fla. β A 24-year-old was arrested for DUI early Monday morning after she ended up rear-ending a marked truck with a deputy inside, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.
According to the agency, the crash happened just after midnight when a deputy with his marked Chevrolet Silverado was helping control traffic and ensure the safety of a construction business working on the road.
The deputy was reportedly in the left lane of northbound Interstate 75, south of College Avenue, when a 2011 Honda Accord approached.
The sheriff's office says this is when the driver, 24-year-old Courtney Settle, failed to yield the right of way to the deputy and slammed into the back of the marked truck.
The deputy was left with non-life-threatening injuries and wasn't taken to the hospital.
Following the crash, Settle reportedly showed signs of impairment and was arrested on the scene for DUI. She's now facing charges of driving under the influence with personal damage and personal injury.
"Driving under the influence is completely unacceptable, and there is no excuse for putting the lives of others at risk with such reckless behavior," Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement. "The consequences of impaired driving can be devastating and life-changing.
"We will not tolerate such disregard for the safety and well-being of our community."
There is an investigation ongoing at this time.
