Deputies: Florida sex offender fled his home in Brooksville

Deputies say Stephen Wynn, 57, removed his ankle monitor and left his Brooksville home around 4 p.m. Sunday.

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. — Hernando County Sheriff's Office deputies are looking for a registered sex offender who fled his home in Brooksville, according to a news release.

Stephen Wynn, 57, was reportedly arrested Thursday, Aug. 8 for one count of failure to comply with sex offender reporting requirements. He was released two days later, according to deputies.

On Sunday, the sheriff's office said they learned that Wynn had removed his ankle monitor and believed he left his Brooksville home around 4 p.m.

Deputies say Wynn is driving a family member's 2014 gray Jeep Patriot with Florida tag IZ93ES. An investigation reportedly revealed he had gone to the bank before fleeing his home to withdraw a large sum of cash.

Wynn's prior criminal history reveals he was adjudicated guilty of gross sexual imposition and sexual battery on an adult victim with aggravating circumstances in 2019 in Stark County, North Dakota, the sheriff's office said.

That conviction designated Wynn as a sex offender in the state of Florida, according to deputies.

Wynn is described as 5'8'' and 210 pounds with gray hair and blue eyes, the sheriff's office said.

Anyone with information on Wynn's whereabouts can call Hernando County Crime Stoppers at -866-990-TIPS (8477) or submit a tip online here.
