SPRING HILL, Fla. — Hernando County deputies have arrested a man they say left another man with a severe gash across his face.

Officials with the sheriff's office and Hernando County Fire Rescue responded to a home around 2:15 a.m. Saturday in the area of Treehaven Drive and Kimball Court in Spring Hill.

They received a call reporting a man approached a home asking for help with a "really bad gash" on his face.

When they arrived at the scene, authorities said they saw the injured man in the caller's yard and confirmed he had a gash to the side of his face and was "bleeding profusely."

The injured man was taken to a local hospital and is expected to recover from his injuries, authorities say.

Prior to being taken to a hospital, deputies said he told them he went to Steven Slattery's house, also located on Treehaven Drive.

The injured man reportedly told the sheriff's office Slattery accused him and others in the home of stealing his money and illegal drugs.

He attempted to calm Slattery down, which was when he was attacked by Slattery with a knife, officials explain.

The victim also told investigators Slattery made comments explaining he was not "afraid to go back to prison" and was willing to kill someone.

Slattery left the scene in an unknown vehicle but was later arrested by the HCSO Intelligence Unit just before noon Wednesday.

Slattery has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
