BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. — A 21-year-old man is behind bars after authorities say he robbed and carjacked a Lyft driver in Florida last week.
Evandole Lusane is facing multiple charges, including kidnapping, robbery with a firearm and aggravated assault with a firearm.
At around 8 a.m. on Thursday, the Lyft driver arrived at a place on Peak Road in Boynton Beach to pick up two men – one of them being Lusane – who entered his back seat, WPTV reports.
The driver then proceeded to head to the drop-off destination on Seacrest Boulevard, but when he stopped at a stop sign on East Palm Drive, one of the men in the back seat got out of the car while Lusane stayed in the car, according to the news station.
The Boynton Beach Police Department told WPEC-TV that Lusane took out a gun and told the driver to go to a Bank of America. As the driver headed to the bank, Lusane reportedly threatened him and held him at gunpoint.
When they arrived at the bank, the ATM reportedly didn't work and Lusane told the driver to go to another Bank of America.
Lusane then took out $1,000 from the other bank, WPTV says. After taking out money, the 21-year-old reportedly made the Lyft driver take him to a 7-Eleven where he took the keys to the car, entered the store and bought something.
According to WPEC-TV, Lusane made the driver make another stop at the Hypoluxo Scrub Trail where he shoved the gun at the driver's neck and said to him, "I know where you live. If you go to the police, I will kill you and your family."
The Lyft driver got out of the car, ran away and hopped over fences to escape from the 21-year-old. He left his phone, wallet and money withdrawn from the bank stolen inside the car.
After looking at surveillance video, law enforcement was able to find the Lyft driver's car at a convenience store and saw Lusane near an ATM, WPTV reports. The 21-year-old tried to hide inside the back of the store, but he was eventually arrested and had the driver's belongings with him.
