Driver arrested after fiery DUI crash leaves woman dead, deputies say

Joshua Kohlbecker, 43, is being charged with DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide and Felony DWSLR causing death.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office arrested a man Tuesday following a crash that left one woman dead and another man seriously injured in Seminole.

Joshua Kohlbecker, 43, is being charged with DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide and Felony DWSLR (Driving While License Suspended or Revoked) causing death after he failed to stop at a red light and slammed into the car in front of him, which burst into flames, according to a news release from the agency.

The accident reportedly occurred around 9:21 p.m. while multiple cars were stopped at a red light in the eastbound lanes of Bay Pines Boulevard at 100th Way North. Kohlbecker, driving a Ford F-150, failed to stop at the light and rear-ended a yellow Ford Mustang with 26-year-old Ernie Aganlog and 53-year-old Rosario Malicon inside, deputies said.

The Mustang was thrown forward from the impact of the crash, hitting two other cars in the process, according to the sheriff's office. That impact reportedly caused the F-150 and Mustang to become engulfed in flames.

An off-duty Polk County Sheriff's Office sergeant was able to get Kohlbecker out of his burning truck while bystanders did the same for Aganlog, deputies said. Malicon was unable to be extricated, and died at the scene, according to law enforcement.

Kohlbecker and Agbanlog were taken to the hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries, the sheriff's office said.

Kohlbecker has reportedly been booked into the Pinellas County Jail. Next of kin was reportedly notified following Malicon's death.

The investigation is ongoing, according to deputies.
