Deputies track down reckless driver on I-75

Deputies tracked down a suspect wanted on domestic violence charges on SR-56 early Monday morning.
Matthew Ryan Trevino

Hillsborough County, FL - A Florida man is facing numerous charges after leading police on a multi-county chase.

The Sheriff's Office says deputies were dispatched to a reckless driver call on I-75 NB from Adamo Drive shortly before 1 a.m. Monday. The caller advised that a Dodge Ram had struck his vehicle and fled northbound on the interstate.

When deputies arrived on scene, they realized that the suspect, Matthew Trevino, was wanted for domestic violence and fleeing to elude charges from an earlier incident.

Deputies followed the vehicle until it entered Pasco County. Aviation continued to monitor the vehicle and Pasco County Sheriff's Office units picked up the pursuit. The suspect continued northbound through Pasco County, turned around at State Road 52 and then exited I-75 at State Road 54, where he came to a stop.

Pasco deputies were able to contact Trevino, but he would not exit his vehicle and stated that he was armed. At that time, Pasco County Sheriff's Office SWAT team arrived on scene and the suspect started his vehicle and drove away, striking stop sticks with his right, front tire.

Trevino allegedly continued southbound on I-75 and stopped just north of State Road 56 where he was taken into custody.

The suspect was taken to Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel for a scrape he received on his head during the arrest. After release from the hospital, Trevino will be transported to the Pasco County Jail.

At this time Trevino faces one count of Battery Domestic Violence and two counts of Fleeing to Elude, with more charges pending.
