PUNTA GORDA, Fla. — Three residents of the Deep Creek region in Charlotte County saw their home set on fire. Another person was found dead on the scene, and according to law enforcement, he may have been the one who started the fire.
In a morning statement, Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell said the investigation is in its early stages and is still ongoing.
According to Prummell, officers were called about a house fire at around 12:30 a.m. Thursday. When they got there, they found three people who said that they lived in that house. Prummell said they looked like they had been in a fight.
The three residents were taken to the hospital and treated for injuries and smoke inhalation.
At the scene, officers found the body of another person who was pronounced dead. The residents had claimed this was the person who started the fire and had been the aggressor.
"On this Thanksgiving Day, I ask that you please keep this family in your thoughts and prayers," Prummell said.
