Dashcam video shows FHP trooper stop wrong-way driver on I-275 in Tampa

Margot McDaniels is facing several charges, including DUI with property damage and leaving the scene of a crash.

TAMPA, Fla. — A woman was arrested after Florida Highway Patrol troopers said she was driving the wrong way while intoxicated early Sunday morning on I-275.

Margot McDaniels is facing several charges, including DUI with property damage and leaving the scene of a crash, according to an arrest report from Florida Highway Patrol.

Around 3:50 a.m., a trooper said he noticed McDaniels driving a Kia Sportage north in the southbound lanes of I-275. The trooper slowed down before moving to hit McDaniels on the rear driver-side.

McDaniels slowed down after being hit but reportedly continued to drive the wrong way down the highway. The trooper's patrol car was rear-ended by another car that failed to stop in time, according to the arrest report.

The woman allegedly continued to drive the wrong way despite the trooper's sirens and an attempt at a PIT maneuver.

Eventually, the trooper was able to get McDaniels to stop and get her out of the car, claiming she had "slow, slurred speech and an odor of alcohol emanating from her breath."

McDaniels reportedly told the trooper that she was a bartender and had received a DUI two weeks earlier. She was placed under arrest and refused to take a breathalyzer test, according to the trooper.

McDaniels was taken to Hillsborough County Jail without further incident, the arrest report said.
