MIAMI — Multiple Coast Guard crews worked to offload thousands of pounds of drugs worth about $50 million in South Florida.

Five crews worked together with international partners to seize more than 3,400 pounds of cocaine and 4,410 pounds of marijuana in international waters off South America in the Eastern Pacific Ocean. The drugs were offloaded on Friday in Port Everglades.

Seven suspected smugglers were also taken into federal custody, according to a news release.

“The Coast Guard’s presence in the Eastern Pacific is vital to our mission of disrupting the flow of illicit narcotics and safeguarding our nation's security," Commander Nathan Moore said in a statement.
