DELRAY BEACH, Fla. — A 19-year-old Clearwater man is facing charges after police say he vandalized an LGBTQ+ Pride intersection in Delray Beach, according to media reports.
In a report from WPEC-TV, Dylan Brewer of Clearwater was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail for reckless driving and felony criminal mischief over $1,000. He reportedly turned himself in to the police on Monday, Feb. 4.
According to the news station, video taken by the city's surveillance camera from a nearby garage on Sunday, Feb. 4, shows a truck with a large flag attached to the back performing a burnout on the street mural, leaving tire tracks on the intersection.
The report explains witnesses at the intersection told law enforcement they saw Brewer intentionally perform the burnout multiple times.
The article states that the Palm Beach County Human Rights Council is the advocacy group behind the street art. The organization's charitable foundation, along with the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, paid $16,000 to install the LGBTQ+ painted Intersection.
WPTV-TV explains that this is not the first time this mural has been vandalized. In 2021, a man was arrested and pleaded guilty to criminal mischief and reckless driving that damaged the street paint.
