MCALESTER, Okla. — Department of Corrections officials identified an inmate killed Friday night at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary.
A correctional officer on a routine security check found Anthony Palma around 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 22 unresponsive inside his cell that he shared with another inmate.
Officials believe Palma’s cellmate is responsible for his death.
Palma was found convicted in the 1997 murder of 8-year-old Kirsten Hatfield, according to several media reports.
Medical staff could not save Palma. A doctor pronounced him dead around 8:55 p.m. on Feb. 22.
Palma was serving a life-without-parole sentence for first-degree murder in Oklahoma County. He had been in Oklahoma Department of Corrections custody since December 2017.
