Charges brought in crash that killed FHP trooper, semi-truck driver

Michael Addison, 30, is charged with multiple counts of felony homicide.

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol announced charges Saturday in the crash that killed an FHP Trooper and a semi-truck driver in St. Lucie County.

Michael Addison, 30, of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is charged with multiple counts of felony homicide, fleeing and eluding and driving without a license.

According to FHP, Trooper Zachary Fink began chasing Addison early Friday morning when he was seen speeding near Interstate 95. Addison, driving a Kia sedan, then entered the interstate before turning around and driving the wrong way.

Fink also turned around to continue following Addison but then collided with a semi-truck.

Fink was airlifted to the hospital where he died. The truck driver died at the scene, according to FHP. 

FHP says after the crash, Addison fled several attempts by multiple different agencies to conduct a traffic stop. Addison was booked into the St. Lucie County Jail without bond. 

He faces the following charges from two agencies:

Florida Highway Patrol:

  • 2 Counts, Vehicular Homicide
  • 2 Counts, Felony Homicide
  • Driving without license causing death or serious injury
  • Aggravated Flee to Elude with serious injury or death
  • 1 Count, Felony Homicide

St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office:

  • Flee to Elude Police with lights/sirens activated
  • Out of County Warrant from Broward County Sheriff's Office-Aggravated Battery
