TAMPA, Fla. — A 33-year-old Tampa man was arrested after he reportedly identified himself as "Captain America" to try to enter the MacDill Air Force Base while having an assault rifle in his vehicle.
Baruch Roche 11 was charged with attempted possession of a firearm in a federal facility.
On Nov. 3, Rohe tried to enter the military base when U.S. Air Force security stopped him at the game and asked for identification, the U.S. Department of Justice said in a news release. However, Roche refused to tell authorities his name and instead told them he was "Captain America" and demanded to be let inside.
The 33-year-old also said he had a meeting scheduled with a general of the U.S. Special Operations Command regarding top-secret information.
According to a criminal complaint, Roche started to become argumentive and threatened security personnel that he would come back every day to look for the officer who refused to let him in.
Officials at the base reportedly detained Roche due to his erratic behavior and searched his car. They then found an AR-15 rifle in the trunk along with five magazines loaded with 125 rounds of ammunition.
If convicted of his indictment, the 33-year-old can face a maximum penalty of one year in federal prison.
The U.S. Air Force Security Forces, Tampa Police Department and FBI investigated the case. It will be prosecuted by the assistant U.S. attorney, the news release mentioned.
