BRADENTON, Fla. — A 44-year-old woman from Bradenton was arrested after she allegedly used her mother's name, driver's license and social security information to file for hurricane disaster assistance.
Veronica Torres is charged with filing a false public assistance claim, a third-degree felony, the Bradenton Police Department stated in a news release.
Torres reportedly claimed she was forced to move out of her home due to hurricane damage before her request for around $7,967 through Bradenton's Hurricane Disaster Assistance Program was approved.
Officers said when the woman arrived to pick up her check on Thursday, an employee with the city said she looked much younger than the woman pictured on the application.
"After her explanation of 'botox treatments' failed to convince the employee, Torres was asked to return the following day," Bradenton police stated.
Torres returned before she was questioned by officers and arrested.
