Bartow, Florida -- A Polk County judge set bond at $300,000 Friday on the new charges against the Lakeland teacher accused of having a sexual relationship with a second student.
Jennifer Fichter was being held in jail on $70,000 bond following her arrest on April 15 for an alleged relationship she was having with a 17-year-old student that resulted in a pregnancy and subsequent abortion. The relationship came to light after the boy's mother found text messages between aliases Fichter was using and the teen.
During an investigation into Fichter's past after her arrest, the superintendent discovered that she had falsified her application with Polk County Schools to cover up red flags about her past. In light of this new information and her arrest, the Polk County School Board voted unanimously this week to fire Fichter.
Then, to make matters worse, a former student of Fichter's from her days at Central Florida Aerospace Academy came forward and admitted to detectives he too had a sexual relationship with her between October 2011 and May 2012. He was a junior at the time the encounters began.
And this may not be the end of the list of victims, on Thursday 10 News learned two more potential victims are talking with Lakeland Police.
On Thursday, 10 News interviewed a mother of one of Fichter's former students who said she asked police to investigate Fichter nearly two years ago when she says her son, then a student of Fichter's, started getting inappropriate texts and Facebook messages from her.
She said the investigation at the school level and the criminal complaint went nowhere and that it's maddening it's all only coming to light now.
