Update on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017: LAKELAND, Fla. - An armed robbery suspect turned himself in to the Pasco County Jail on Wednesday night.
Edner Dely, 25, had Polk County warrants for attempted armed robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The warrants stem from an attempted armed robbery of a taxi driver.
Authorities will transport Dely to Polk County at a later time.
Original Story on Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017: LAKELAND, Fla. - The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is searching for an armed robbery suspect who is accused of trying to rob a taxi driver.
The sheriff’s office issued a warrant for Edner Dely’s arrest. The warrant is for attempted robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Dely, 25, is considered armed and dangerous, according to the sheriff’s office.
Early Monday morning, Dely took a taxi from a closed office building in Dade City to Lakeland. Dely went to retrieve cash from an ATM during a stop at the Sunoco gas station at 2100 West Memorial Boulevard to pay for the taxi.
Sheriff’s deputies said Dely removed a small handgun from his pocket upon returning to the cab, and demanded the victim give him everything he had.
Dely then ran from the scene on foot, according to the sheriff’s office. His criminal history includes previous arrests for attempted murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, exhibiting a weapon within 1,000 feet of a school, battery, robbery by sudden snatching and violation of parole. Dely has a previous felony conviction for armed burglary.
