RUSKIN, Fla. — An armed burglary suspect was found dead with gunshot wounds early Sunday morning at a home in Ruskin, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office stated in a news release.
The agency reportedly received a call that the man had broken into the home around 12:24 a.m. on Double D Ranch Trail.
When deputies arrived at the house, they found the suspect dead with multiple gunshot wounds. After an investigation, the sheriff's office determined that the homeowner's adult son shot the suspect after he broke into the home.
"Imagine the fear of being awoken in the middle of the night to a stranger invading your home," Sheriff Chad Chronister stated in the release. "This is every homeowner's greatest fear, a dangerous and brazen individual breaking in, showing a complete disregard for the safety and security of others. Our thoughts are with this family as they recover from the trauma of this event."
The investigation is ongoing and the agency said more updates, if available, will be provided through the Public Affairs Office.
