LAKE WALES, Fla. — Three people died after a crash on State Road 60 East in Lake Wales on Saturday night.
A 22-year-old from Winter Haven, Hannah Wieser, was driving her Ford Flex westbound on the road behind a blue Kia occupied by visitors from England. When Wieser went into the eastbound lane to pass the car, she struck a Ford F-150 head-on that was traveling east.
The truck had a couple and their grandson in the car who were returning home from Busch Gardens. The couple was 54-year-old Luis Rodriguez and 52-year-old Jomar Maldonado from Port St. Lucie who both died. Their 3-year-old grandson Jaydn was strapped into his car seat in the backseat and survived. He was transported to a local hospital and expected to make a full recovery, according to a news release by the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
The Kia also hit Wiesner's car after the crash but suffered minimal damage. Wiesner died from the crash.
