Teen, mother fatally shot inside Hernando County home

The Hernando County Sheriff's Office is not identifying the suspect as of Wednesday morning.

Update: BROOKSVILLE, Fla. - The Hernando County sheriff confirmed a 16-year-old girl and her mother were killed in a shooting Tuesday night.

Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhuis identified the two victims as Brene Marshall and her mother Taneta Morrell during a news conference on Wednesday morning.

The shooting happened around 8:48 p.m. Tuesday at a home on Azen Loop near Flagler Avenue, which is in the Hill 'n Dale neighborhood.

Marshall was a few days shy of her 17th birthday, Nienhuis said. Morrell was 40 years old.

Nienhuis did not identify the suspect on Wednesday morning.

First responders airlifted Adolphus Washington, 36, to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. Washignton was still alive as of Wednesday morning, Nienhuis said.

Nienhuis said investigators are still working to determine the suspect's motive and the relationship to the victims.

The investigation is ongoing.

Original Story: BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – Hernando County sheriff’s deputies arrested a suspect early Wednesday morning after separate shootings left two people dead and two others injured.

The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office is not yet identifying the suspect or victims of the shooting inside a home in the Hill 'n Dale neighborhood.

“The suspect did give up with no resistance,” Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhuis said. “I’m happy to report that there are no further injuries to the suspect or to law enforcement."

First responders took the person injured to an area trauma center via air ambulance. There is no update on the person’s condition.

Investigators are working to determine if the home shooting is related to a separate shooting inside the Brooksville city limits where one person was injured.

A SWAT team entered the home where the suspect was hiding. Investigators believe the suspect broke into the home too.

Nienhuis said there is only one suspected shooter. He did immediately know the suspect's relationship to the victims or the suspect's motive.

“People can rest easy that we have the person in custody,” Nienhuis said.

Nienhius said the suspect has multiple felony warrants and is a "strong person of interest" in the shooting.
