As Chantal weakens from a tropical storm to a tropical depression in the northern Atlantic, a new area of potential development will take shape closer to the U.S.
Located off the northern Atlantic coast, Tropical Storm Chantal weakened into a Tropical Depression Thursday. It is moving to the east and still remains no threat to Florida as it becomes a remnant low.
An area of disorganized thunderstorms in the central Bahamas has the capability of organizing and eventually developing into a tropical system this weekend, but the chances are low.
As of Thursday morning, development is not expected over the next couple of days; but over the weekend and into next week, there is a 20 percent chance that it becomes a tropical depression.
The disturbance will track northwest out of the Bahamas toward the east coast of Florida this weekend and then begin to curve to the northeast, off the southeast coast of the U.S., early next week.
Regardless of development, rain chances, especially in inland communities and on the east coast of Florida will increase this weekend due to a push of tropical moisture ahead of this tropical disturbance.
