3 vehicles involved in fatal motorcycle crash on Bearss

A multi-vehicle crash on W. Bearss Avenue on Sunday afternoon has left one person dead and two people injured.

TAMPA -- A multi-vehicle crash on W. Bearss Avenue on Sunday afternoon has left one person dead and two people injured.

The crash involved two cars and one motorcycle.

According to traffic homicide investigators, 30-year-old Kirk Francis was driving his Lexus traveling eastbound on Bearss Avenue and attempted to turn left onto Zambito Road. Francis entered the path of 50-year-old Miguel Montaldo heading westbound in his Toyota Corolla which struck Francis' car on the passenger side.

Both vehicles then spun after impact and the 47-year-old motorcyclist, Jeffrey Nichols, which was also westbound behind Montaldo, struck Montaldo in the side.

Nichols' passenger, 40-year-old Dawn Nichols, was ejected over the car and died at the scene from the injuries sustained in the crash.

Francis was not injuries. Montaldo sustained minor injuries and Jeffrey was also injured. He was not wearing a helmet.

Alcohol is not suspected at this time.

All westbound traffic on Bearss Avenue between N. Dale Mabry and Zambito Road was shut down due to the crash investigation. It is now been reopened.

No charges at this time pending further investigation.
