ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has announced that there will be tax relief for people and businesses in Florida affected by Hurricane Helene.

In addition, taxpayers with returns and payments with due dates postponed after Tropical Storm Debby in Florida will now also have until May 1, 2025 to file and pay, the IRS said.
The May 1, 2025 filing date applies to the following people and businesses, according to the IRS:
- Individuals who had a valid extension to file their 2023 return due to run out on Oct. 15, 2024. The IRS noted, however, that because tax payments related to these 2023 returns were due on April 15, 2024, those payments are not eligible for this relief.
- Businesses with an original or extended due date including, among others, calendar-year corporations whose 2023 extensions run out on Oct. 15, 2024.
Officials noted that for areas of Florida that received Debby-related relief, but not Helene-related relief, tax deadlines remain on Feb. 3, 2025. This applies to these 20 counties:

- Clay
- DeSoto
- Duval
