TAMPA, Fla. — A Hillsborough County man claimed the $1 million prize from the Florida Lottery's "$1,000,000 A Year for Life" scratch-off game Thursday, the agency said in a news release.
Jamarr Lewter, 39, of Thonotosassa reportedly chose to receive his winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $640,000.
Lewter purchased the ticket from a 7-Eleven located at 8305 West Hillsborough Ave. in Tampa, and the retailer who sold him the winning ticket will receive a $2,000 bonus commission, the agency said.
The "$1,000,000 A Year for Life" scratch-off game reportedly features two top prizes of $1 million a year for life and 234 prizes of $1 million. Overall odds of receiving a winning ticket are 1-in-4.50, according to the Florida Lottery.
Since their inception, scratch-off games have reportedly awarded more than $63.1 billion in prizes, created 2,175 millionaires and generated more than $19.24 billion for Florida's Educational Enhancement Trust Fund.
