FLORIDA, USA — The Sunshine State is known for a diverse amount of jobs in different fields.
According to Indeed, some of the best jobs in Florida include being an anesthesiologist, surgeon and psychiatrist.
If you are looking for a job in Florida you may be wondering, what is the state's minimum wage?
FloridaCommerce says the state's minimum wage is $13 per hour as of Sept. 30, 2024, and it won't stay that way for the foreseeable future.
During the 2020 Election, voters approved a constitutional amendment that would increase the minimum wage each year until it reaches $15 per hour. The rate at which minimum wage increases will continue through 2026 when it officially reaches $15 per hour.
Additionally, the minimum wage for tipped employees is $9.98 per hour through Sept. 29, 2025.
Once wages reach $15, the minimum wage will be adjusted annually for inflation starting in 2027.
FloridaCommerce says employers may not retaliate against an employee for exercising their right to receive the proper minimum wage.
The following are rights protected by the state's constitution when it comes to wages:
- File a complaint about an employer’s alleged noncompliance with lawful minimum wage requirements.
- Inform any person about an employer’s alleged noncompliance with lawful minimum wage requirements.
- Inform any person of his or her potential rights under Section 24, Article X of the State Constitution and to assist the individual in asserting such rights.
If an employer is found not honoring the minimum wage requirement, they are subject to be fined $1,000 per violation.
