TAMPA, Fla. — If the economy has you working or thinking about working a part-time gig to help make ends meet, you're not alone.
The U.S. Labor Department just announced that the number of people working a second job has reached a post-pandemic high of 8.4 million.
That’s about 6% of all women in the workplace and around 4.7% of men.
More people are also using remote work skills for added income.
“It is helpful. And it keeps me busy,” Ariana Godoy, who works three jobs, said.
“I'm an insurance agent. I'm an Uber driver, and I also do eyelash extensions,” she said. “And I feel like I can be a little bit more flexible when it comes to doing things like going out to eat and traveling.”
Tampa's most recent unemployment rate was just over 3%. Economists say that's good news for people looking to pick up extra income.
Although prices continue to rise, so far, they say there's no shortage of work for those who want or need it.
Those same labor statistics show of the 8 million people working multiple gigs, about five million had one full-time and one part-time job.
Nearly 2 million of them are working at least two additional part-time jobs.
