Dunedin businesses damaged in tornado back open a month later

Multiple businesses were severely damaged in the tornado. The Causeway Plaza was covered with glass in October. Now businesses are back open.

DUNEDIN, Fla. — This week marks one month since a tornado tore through a shopping plaza in Dunedin.

Those who own businesses inside the Causeway Plaza explained it’s been a rough recovery month. Some businesses like the Bingo Hall and The Gym still have boards up from where the wind shattered their windows.

A month ago, glass covered the parking lot. Currently, there is still work that needs to be done, but businesses are open.

The Gym has construction work being done on the roof and a window remained boarded up for now. With ongoing construction, some business owners said it’s been tough because people assume they’re all closed. That’s not the case. Local spots are asking for the community's support.

"It’s been a rough road. Business is back at the plaza. Let's start the patronship back to the businesses you know and love. Come on back to the plaza," a proprietor at the Grape Bottle Wine, Robert Sprentall said.

Some business owners said a big struggle over the past month has been awaiting insurance claims. This is the reason why some businesses still have wood boards up.
