Chubby's, known for the 'Steak Bomb,' to close after 40 years

"We will miss all of our customers, they were the best part of the job," the restaurant wrote in a post.

TAMPA, Fla. — After 40 years of serving up its iconic "Steak Bombs," Chubby's Super Subs & Pizza is closing its doors.

The sandwich shop announced the news in a post on Thursday, inviting customers to enjoy their favorite foods until Chubby's last day on Friday, June 30.

Located in Ballast Point on Bayshore Boulevard, Chubby's has been a favorite for decades among military families at MacDill Air Force Base.

"This was the first place I ever ate a Philly Cheese Steak. It was also one of the first places I ate when I got to MacDill. When my wife and I went on our honeymoon, I brought her to eat here. I will miss coming back to eat here whenever I come back to Tampa," customer Andrew Decker wrote on Facebook.

In addition to its Steak Bomb, which features a combination of steak, sauteed onions, mushrooms, green peppers, American cheese & genoa salami, Chubby's is known for grilled and cold subs, fresh-baked pizzas and chicken dinners.

"I knew this day would come but I was hoping I would be like 80😢 my favorite restaurant, I grew up here. I will miss your pizza forever," customer Hollyday Lovely commented.

Chubby's is inviting its loyal patrons to stop by over the next week to share any special stories or memories they have with the restaurant.

"We will miss all of our customers, they were the best part of the job. Come say goodbye to Chubbys and get your final Bomb on!" the restaurant's post reads.
