It was an afternoon of inspiration and recognition at the Hilton Carillon in St. Petersburg Thursday, as hundreds of women gathered to celebrate the YWCA of Tampa Bay’s 2nd Pearls of Wisdom luncheon.
10News anchor Dion Lim served as mistress of ceremonies, sharing her own “pearl” centering on opportunity.
“Opportunity is made, not given,” she said. “It is our job as women to stand up, speak out and ask for what we want - to not be afraid.”
The women recognized for their service to the community included Dr. Paulette C. Walker, the national president of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and Rayshall Poinsette, former senior service officer of the Largo Police Department.
YWCA Tampa Bay is a non-profit group with a mission to eliminate racism and to empower women while improving social and economic conditions in the community.
