TAMPA, Fla. — Tampa is a top destination for millennials looking for a place to call home.
A new study by Hire A Helper, a moving company, found many metropolitan areas around Tampa and Jacksonville had some of the highest gain of millennial residents in the country.
Tampa had 95% more millennials move to the city than last year. The city had the highest net gain n the country in 2023 and Las Vegas came in second.

Top reasons for moving
The study found that the top three reasons behind millennial moves are:
- Wanted new or better housing
- New job or job transfer
- To establish own household
Some other reasons were cheaper housing and easier commute but new or better housing ranked the highest at 16%.
Although not as many millennials are moving in general, according to the study. Moving among this generation has steadily declined and the amount that moved last year is half of what it was a decade ago.
On the other hand, Gen Z's moving rate has increased over the years.
Hire a Helper said housing affordability, high rent rates and debt are all factors that have contributed to the slowdown of moving among millennials.
Bottom cities for millennials
Despite the glamour and excitement that New York and California seem to offer, metro areas in those states are losing the most millennials.
