ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Santa Claus will soon be cleared to enter Florida's airspace to deliver Christmas presents this holiday season.
Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Wilton Simpson announced Monday that, in collaboration with the North Pole, Santa Claus and his reindeer will receive clearance to fly over the Sunshine State "to ensure Christmas traditions are upheld and holiday cheer reaches every family" via an emergency order.
Commissioner Simpson's office says it will issue the order later this month to "waive any regulations or requirements by the department that could potentially hinder or delay Santa Claus' travel across Florida on Christmas."
More details are expected soon. However, as the state and North Pole work together to give Santa proper clearance, Commissioner Simpson also announced Monday that children can receive a "Certificate of Clearance" this holiday season.
This certificate, in addition to the state's forthcoming executive order, will confirm that Santa and his reindeer are cleared to enter Florida and deliver gifts to good boys and girls, Commissioner Simpson's office says.
Parents, you can go online to request your child's certificate. They'll serve as a unique keepsake and "add a touch of magic" this Christmas, making it one to remember.
"Each certificate is personalized with the child's name and signed by Commissioner Simpson, making it an exciting way to highlight Santa's special visit to their home," a press release reads.

“The people of Florida have been so kind to me and my reindeer over the years, and I’m thrilled to work with Commissioner Simpson to make this season extra special. Rudolph and the team are excited to fly over Florida homes, fueled by the finest Florida-grown treats!” Santa Claus said in a statement.
Santa and his reindeer are scheduled to fly across the globe overnight on Christmas Eve before returning to the North Pole on Christmas morning.
