TAMPA, Fla. — People are well aware of Black Friday, but what some don’t want to become familiar with is “Brown Friday.”
This is what plumbers refer to as the day after Thanksgiving when you have plumbing problems. The owner of Olin Plumbing in Tampa said it’s one of the busiest days of the year. This is for several reasons.
First, when it comes to cooking. Derek Olin explained people need to make sure grease isn't being put down the drain. This could cause a clog and on a larger scale, it could create a wastewater backup in neighborhoods.
Olin said every Thanksgiving, his company receives emergency calls with someone’s kitchen sink not working. One way to avoid that is to be aware of what goes down the garbage disposal.
"For the disposal, you need to start your water running so you get water through the drain. Then you feed the disposal small amount of whatever you’re putting down in there," Olin said.
Olin Plumbing workers, and many other plumbing companies across the Tampa Bay area, are on call in case you need them for the holiday. They hope people take their advice so they're plumbing prepared.
