April Fools' Day prank or legit? 7-Eleven announces hot dog-flavored sparkling water as part of a new fizzy flavors lineup

The Irving-based convenience store chain says it will release more details about the availability of a possible hot dog-flavored sparkling water on April 1. Hmmmmmm.

DALLAS — 7-Eleven shoppers will soon be able to try a new lineup of sparkling waters from the convenience store chain -- including, just maybe, one fizzy flavor that directly nods to the spot's popular roller machine hot dogs.

Unless, of course, it's just an early April Fools' Day joke.

The Irving-based company this week teased the arrival of a hot dog-flavored sparkling water -- a flavor inspired by the store's Big Bite hot dogs offerings, per a press release. It purports to be the latest entry into 7-Eleven's lineup of sparkling waters created in partnership with art-inspired beverage brand Miracle Seltzer.

"While crafting flavors like Lemon Lime and Sweet Orange came more easily, our journey took an unexpected turn with the creation of Big Bite Hot Dog Sparkling Water – a daring flavor that pushes the boundaries of flavor innovation,” the brand's Executive Vice President, Chief Marketing & Sustainability Officer Marissa Jarratt said in a statement. "7-Eleven is constantly in pursuit of innovative, unique experiences for our customers, and the 7-Select x Miracle Seltzer lineup is sure to delight even the most adventurous of palates. We’re excited for customers to embark on this flavor adventure and experience their favorite snack in a whole new form."

Worth noting: 7-Eleven also said it would release more details about the availability of this new product on April 1... which, rather conveniently, is April Fools' Day.

So... more than likely, yeah, it probably is all a big joke.

One North Texas beverage company, however, has previously shown the intestinal fortitude to really go through with releasing a hot dog-flavored drink in real life.

In 2022, the Fort Worth-based Martin House Brewing Company launched a hot dog water-flavored hard seltzer flavor at Glizzy Fest, an event it held in honor of the backyard and street corner American staple cuisine.

Off-the-wall flavor palates is kind of just what Martin House does. Throughout the years, the brewery has also been behind such unique offerings as Best Maid Sour Pickle Beer (pretty much what it sounds like), Murph Juice (a barbecue sauce-flavored beer), Buffalo Wangz (a buffalo wing sauce-flavored sour beer) and even an "Elf"-themed beer brewed with spaghetti, syrup and M&Ms called Cotton-Headed Ninny-Muggins.

We suppose it remains to be seen if 7-Eleven is willing to actually reach Martin House levels of outrageous taste offerings.

In the meantime, 7-Eleven is already legitimately selling lemon lime-, green apple- and sweet orange-flavored versions of its seltzers.
