ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — With Thanksgiving less than a week away, families are finalizing their menus, prepping their place settings and getting ready to celebrate with their loved ones.

While the turkey is a no-brainer, the side dishes are what really bring the meal all together. In fact, according to Campbell's State of the Sides report, 56% of Americans prefer side dishes over turkey.

And 38% said they'd be perfectly happy to ditch the turkey altogether and fill their plates with only side dishes.

So, we know side dishes are important, but the tricky part is figuring out which ones to make.

Is it better to go traditional or adventurous? Do people prefer sweet or savory?

Perhaps a good place to start is by seeing what the most popular Thanksgiving side dish is per state.

Google Trends created a map showing what sides people search for most over the past week.

According to the Google Trends map, casserole is king. Be it green bean, sweet potato or corn, it's clear people across the U.S. are hungry for the Thanksgiving staple.

In Florida, sweet potato casserole is the most searched dish. The same goes for Tennessee, Missouri, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Wisconsin.

Mashed potatoes appeared to be another favorite, earning the top search spot in Oregon, Montana, Maine, North Carolina and Maryland.

Some states seemed to have more unique tastes with their searches; Nebraska's top search was ramen noodle salad, Louisiana's was fruit salad and Delaware's was brie mini tarts.

And if you happen to miss the mark on the main course, there's still time to save the meal with a sweet treat to finish it off. Google Trends also generated a map of the most searched baked goods per state.
