ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — If you're looking for a good place to grab a bite to eat, you won't have to look far according to a new report by one travel publication.
Travel + Leisure named St. Petersburg the "Best Food City in the U.S." based on research from InsureMyTrip. The travel insurance comparison website dug into many factors to find out which cities are the best destinations for food.
Here are the factors they looked at across 99 cities:
- The average rating of restaurants
- Each city's number of cafes and bakeries
- Number of farmer's markets available
- Prices of cooking classes
InsureMyTrip found St. Pete scored the highest across multiple categories. The city's overall rating came in at 7.16/10 with an average ranking of 4.41 is each category.
The restaurant rating was 4.41, the bakery rating was 4.55, the cafe rating was 4.52 and the average cooking class cost was $94.
"Located right near the Gulf, fresh seafood options are abundant. With the affordable price of a three-course meal at $57.50, even those traveling on a budget can enjoy a delicious meal out," the article from Travel + Leisure read.
The publication also pointed out travelers can expect to find "fantastic coffee." They said the average cost of a cappuccino is $4.39 which is cheaper than the study average of $5.10. The new five-story food hall in the works called Central Park St. Pete was also highlighted in the article.
The hall is opening in the fall and will include bars, restaurants and casual dining spots.
Richmond, Virginia came in at second place, followed by Milwaukee, Wisconsin. You can read the full list here.
