Oreo to release lunar-themed cookies to celebration moon landing's 50th anniversary

The Marshmallow Moon flavored cookies will be available in June to celebrate the historic Apollo 11 moon landing.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — The 50th anniversary of the historic Apollo 11 lunar landing is approaching quickly, and Oreo is celebrating in a tasty way.

The Nabisco cookie brand will release Marshmallow Moon cookies with purple marshmallow creme between two chocolate cookies with moon landing designs. The cookies will also come in glow-in-the-dark packing with lunar anniversary sticker sets inside.

On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first two people on the Moon. The two Americans were on the spaceflight Apollo 11, which was launched by a Saturn V rocket from Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida. 

Kennedy Space Center hosts several 50th anniversary celebrations for the Apollo 11 spaceflight in July. Florida's Space Coast is set to celebrate the first lunar anniversary with historical flashbacks, astronaut seminars and collectible items for visitors.
